All State and Territory building legislation throughout Australia requires a document which legally allows the building to be occupied, these are known as Occupancy Permit, Final Occupation Certificate, Certificate of Classification and Certificate of Occupancy.
Most of Australia's state/ territory building legislation is similar, in that a building must be suitable for occupation and specified directions are adhered to, i.e. conditions in an Occupancy Permit. In a number of jurisdictions the building does not have to comply with the Building Code of Australia or the building permit, but only suitable for occupation under the occupancy permit.
